Stay Young by Ingesting More Fiber

Posted under Health on Tuesday 14 July 2009

The awareness on the effects of aging is seen both internally and externally. More and more people are getting obsessed over these aging dilemmas, especially the women, who are very much concerned about their appearances. Meanwhile, the men are also concerned about aging, especially since it targets their brains and their bones as well. Recent studies also show that there is an increase in the rate of those people who are suffering from brain and bone diseases; these diseases, like we all know, can cause the deterioration of the overall health and wellness of the individual.

Since there is an increased awareness on this issue, many experts and nutritionists have sought a way to stay away from the effects of aging, or at least to delay the symptoms that can cause health problems permanently. From their research, they concluded that a healthy and active lifestyle, particularly a lifestyle that delves on the right food choices in controlled and moderate portions, can help delay aging. There recommendation lies on the restrictions set on a diet plan. Specifically, the diet plan that they are suggesting is that which encourages a high-fiber diet.

A high-fiber diet is very beneficial because it flushes out the toxins that aid in aging. By staying away from unhealthy food choices and opting instead for meals that are rich in whole wheat, bran, fruits and vegetables, a person can become less targeted fro aging. Additionally, choosing a high-fiber diet can also promote weight loss.

For starters, fiber can help make an individual feel fuller even with less food. It can also make an individual feel hunger less. Secondly, fiber can also flush out the toxins in the body while keeping the body away from fats and cholesterol by acting as a sponge and directing these toxins out by flushing it through bowel movements. Indeed, a high-fiber is quite beneficial for weight management. But aside from this, another function for fiber was also discovered.

Fibers cleansing functions can aid in the healthy functioning not only of the digestive tract, but of the heart as well. By doing so, the heart can remain in its prime condition and is thus far from other health complications as well.

Truly, eating fiber have came a long and it can also lead to better things. So load up on fiber now and experience a boost in your lifestyle and in your weight management as well.

Implementing Free Practice Management Software

Posted under Health on Tuesday 14 July 2009

For medical providers looking to improve the efficiency of office operations, there are a number of free practice management solutions available. Before implementing one of them, it is important to analyze your practice management workflow to be sure you are ready.

Software Magnifies Mistakes

One of the biggest mistakes people make is to assume that free practice management systems will solve their workflow problems. In fact, software can have the opposite effect. Computers are very quick but can only do what people tell them to. If your existing system doesn’t work, putting it in electronic form merely allows it to be inefficient a thousand times faster.

Even before evaluating free practice management options, medical offices should evaluate their existing procedures. This is the time to find flaws in the system and fix them. Optimizing the workflow before implementing the EMR will lead to more successful use of the system and a better-run office. Ignoring the problems is a sure recipe for disaster.

What Problem Are You Trying to Solve?

Ask yourself what you expect a free practice management system to do for you. Many offices are implementing EMR because it’s the latest craze, but if they don’t know what to expect from the system then they aren’t going to get much use out of it.

One of the leading reasons medical providers investigate medical practice software is for organization. Storing all patient information as electronic medical records is faster and more efficient than paper-based filing. However the office must create procedures so that everyone from the front desk staff to the physicians is trained on the system and using its capabilities.

Many free practice management include an option for filing electronic insurance claims. Talk to the insurance companies you work with most to ensure the software you are considering can submit claims in a format they can accept.

Implement New Coding Practices

The organizational strength of free practice management software comes from standardized coding. When using paper records, it doesn’t matter if each doctor has unique methods of recording information. If one doctor writes a diagnosis of diabetes as “T2 Diab” and another as “DM” anyone reading the patient’s records will figure out both diagnoses are the same.

When using electronic medical records, it is imperative that all data such as diagnoses or medications be recorded in a standard format. This allows users to search and organize records easily. If there a diagnosis is recorded ten different ways then ten different searches will have to be done.

Developing and using a standardized coding system even before bringing in the electronic system ensures that everyone is comfortable with the new procedures before the system goes live. It spreads out the learning curve and makes everyone comfortable with the new software.

Multiple Sclerosis - A Thousand Fold Proven Way To Cure It

Posted under Health on Tuesday 14 July 2009

The other day I read about multiple sclerosis. They describe this disease as incurable. Fact is that MS had been unknown until about the middle of the nineteenth century. Around that time, the French neurologist Charcot discovered the symptoms first. Interestingly enough this disease has been diagnosed always more often since then and this development is unstopped. Today MS belongs to the fastest growing neurological diseases.

Of course, that causes questions to come up.

1. How come that the symptoms where rare at that time and even unknown before?

2. What had changed in those days?

3. What can one do about it?

Let’s talk about the third question. Information available on the web gives over and over the same answer to it: nothing, except giving some medicine. However, these medicines appear to do nothing else but to relieve patients from their pain and even that only to limited extent.

Another question: What causes the symptoms at all? The answer is that medical science has no answer to it until today. There are many assumptions. The latest among them is that something destroys the myelin sheath surrounding the axon of neurons. Good to know, but what does it help? Nothing at all.

Then I stumbled over a website on MS treatment of the health and nutrition expert G. Joel Ullisperger, M.S. He says that the German physician Dr. Joseph Evers healed about 12.000 MS patients between 1940 and 1975. That is exciting and sounds compelling, doesn’t it?

Now some critics could say, prove would be missing. If Doctor Evers would have been a medical doctor with a simple practice, I could feel inclined to agree. However, Evers had a clinic where he exclusively treated MS patients and he was famous nationwide for his success. This doctor got even people out of their wheelchair.

So what did he actually do to help so many people? He changed their diet. Among others, he eliminated all industrially produced food. Of course, there are a lot more elements to consider and to change than just such food, says Joel Ullisperger.

Unfortunately, it appears as if this chance to cure or better said, get patients free of MS symptoms is kept secret; maybe even purposefully. National MS societies who are supposed to be the spokespersons of MS patients and whose first goal should be to make an effective solution available are uninterested in cooperating, as Ullisperger had to find out sadly.

The worst of all is he says that even if people get to know this unique chance and read of an even improved, still more effective approach, they seem to have a hard time to give it a try. One reason is that people, even if they suffer from cancer, try to avoid changing their beloved way to eat. More likely is they are so manipulated, so negatively conditioned by the misinformation of mass media to this “no cure possible” that they simply resigned, says Joel Ullisperger.

I tell you what:
If I had a disease that made my life miserable, I would do all and everything to get better. If that would only mean a simple change of my diet, I would jump and start right away especially if I had a specialist who tells me exactly how and why to do it.

Overcoming Dentist Phobia: Four Sedation Dentistry Techniques

Posted under Health on Tuesday 14 July 2009

A common misconception about dentistry is that you don’t have any power when you get into the office. Since we were children we have been shown images of the all-powerful dentist, and the painful and hurtful experiences of television characters. This fabrication has led to a condition known as dental phobia — the fear of dentists.

However, dental phobia is very real and it affects people everywhere to varying degrees. For this very reason, new methods of dentistry were developed to help people cope with or simply get through their next trip to the dentist. The method is called sedation dentistry. The practices range from the use of mild sedatives to heavier sedatives to achieve a fully relaxed state of being, allowing them to get the dental treatment they need.

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

Nitrous Oxide has been in use by dentists since the 1800s. It is commonly mixed with oxygen in a half and half ratio. For minor procedures, like for instance a teeth cleaning, Nitrous Oxide is a perfectly acceptable anesthesia. While it will not provide any pain relief, it has been very well known for its ability to help patients relax. If a patient’s fear dentistry is mild, nitrous oxide might be all that is needed to ease the pressure.

However, for more invasive, or more laborious procedures for you dentist, you will need to also have a local anesthetic administered in order to numb the pain and dull the area.

General Anesthesia:

General Anesthesia refers to any kind of anesthetic that renders the patient unconscious. General Anesthesia, because it leaves the patient unconscious and unaware of their surroundings no other local anesthetics are needed.

When the patient awakes from general anesthesia, they typically remember nothing that happened to them while they were under. The entire procedure is more of a story as opposed to something that has actually happened to them. While they may be sore or need to rest, they will generally be in good spirits.

Oral and Intravenous Sedatives:

Neither oral nor IV sedatives provide pain relief, so they should be used in conjunction with a local anesthetic in order to alleviate pain. However, oral and IV sedatives administered by a dentist can provide a lot of relief for the anxiety that is associated with visiting the dentist.

Oral sedatives can be administered either the night before a procedure or up to 30 minutes before it gets underway. IV sedation, because it is nearly instantaneous, is administered moments before any major dental procedure.

The Risks of Succumbing to a Phobia of the Dentist

While it may seem like a scary proposition at times, not visiting the dentist because of your phobia could have serious detrimental effects on your dental health. Avoidance due to fear can contribute to cavities, infections, and a weakening of the teeth. However, with advances in sedation dentistry, phobia and avoidance of the dentist can become a thing of the past and a bring healthy smile a goal for the future.

The Future Of Vaping Products

Posted under Health on Tuesday 14 July 2009

Have you ever found a product that you thought would stick but didn’t? A look back at some products that many thought would take off but didn’t is plenty. Just to name a few: the Magnavox CD-i video game console, the ahead-of-its-time PDA device Apple Newton, and even Lifesavers soda… well, the last one doesn’t sound enticing but it probably was for some people when it was available!

There are a new line of products that are being sold today that many think are just fads, but many beg to differ. On one side of the spectrum, some argue that these devices are worthless and teach users irresponsibility and a lack of accountability, while the other side argues that it is a healthier, safer alternative as well as a means of quitting addictions altogether.

The future of vaping devices is now, and the huge tally of sales on such products show that many consumers believe it is more than a fad and that these vaping devices are productive. The electronic cigarette and the vaporizer are on the forefront of this new revolution, and consumers - especially smokers - are eager to test out the efficiency and productivity of these items.

The electronic cigarette, or as the industry calls them the e cigarette, was invented in China back in 2004 but is only starting to make its rounds in the United States. Word spread quickly about this useful device that mimics a traditional tobacco cigarette in every aspect. Consisting of just three parts, the e cigarette’s atomizer, or heating element, heats up the liquid nicotine or non-nicotine solution and turns it into a vapor. The user can then inhale it for an experience that is wildly very, very close if not the same as smoking a traditional tobacco stick. Since the liquid solution contains propylene glycol, nicotine, natural and artificial flavorings, and a few more ingredients, the health risks that it poses are minimal to absent. In the vapor, there are traces of no chemicals or nicotine, making it a safe way to vape around others.

The vaporizer is a device that is much bigger than the e cigarette but is definitely just as useful. It can be used for cooking, aromatherapy, and for inhaling herbs. At this time, its primary use is for medicinal cannabis, but a quick glance at this product online will show that people are not only using it for medicinal purposes. With marijuana, research has shown that the moment in which an effect is achieved needs less herbal product than when it is smoked directly. With tobacco, traces of chemicals, noxious gases, and other toxins were either lowered significantly or eliminated altogether.

With products as beneficial as these, it is clear that they will not be going anywhere anytime soon!

Making Neck Pain A Non-Issue Through Chiropractic

Posted under Health on Tuesday 14 July 2009

There are few maladies that can be quite as effective at interrupting the everyday activities of life as neck pain. Neck pain can lead to chronic and very painful headaches, as well as a general inability to function, whether at work, at home, or even with recreational activities. And yet, neck pain is so common that many people come to expect it as a normal part of the aging process, which it most certainly does not have to be!

One of the best ways to avoid the onset of neck pain - or to treat it after it presents itself - is through regular treatment with a Doctor of Chiropractic. Chiropractors can be the go-to source for both preventive care regarding neck issues, as well as for effective, non-invasive treatment if neck pain has already made an unwelcome appearance in a patient’s life.

There are certainly many reasons to consider visiting a chiropractic physician, as they can effectively treat back pain and other ailments, but neck pain is one area in which chiropractors can truly excel and offer something special. You see, chiropractic treatment is non-invasive and does not involve the use of habit-forming pharmaceutical drugs or surgical procedures. Through a series of manual adjustments, exercises, rehabilitation therapies, and other modalities, chiropractors are able to attack the root causes of neck pain at their course, and see success with patients when many other types of therapy may have failed.

Chiropractic physicians have received specific training in treatments that are not taught in allopathic (M.D.) medical schools, so they are uniquely qualified to treat neck pain in these ways. In addition, many chiropractors receive additional training in managing overall wellness of their patients, with such elements as nutrition, optimal exercises, and even decompression therapy. All of these treatment measures can be good ancillary parts of the complete package of neck pain relief compiled by a chiropractor, and all of them work well together to support the concept of a healthier patient overall!

Preventive care and wellness advice is a vital part of the practice for most chiropractors, and this stands in stark contrast to the type of health care practiced these days by most practitioners. Chiropractors subscribe to the old adage that “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” and they strive to be an important part of the wellness equation for their patients. Of course, this means that seeing a chiropractor with some regularity is paramount, rather than just waiting to schedule a visit when something goes awry! A chiropractor is generally far more interested in keeping patients out of pain, than watching them hurt themselves and then try to get them out of neck pain over and over again.

Through regular chiropractic treatments and consultation with a Doctor of Chiropractic, it becomes very feasible to prevent neck pain from ever becoming an issue. On the other hand, if one finds that neck pain is already a problem, a chiropractor may be able to provide the precise combination of therapies to relieve the symptoms and also strengthen the patient to avoid problems in the future.

Brain Vitamins Can Improve Your Cognitive Function

Posted under Health on Tuesday 14 July 2009

There are vitamins that many people take to improve the function of the brain. Before taking any of these or supplements, make sure that you consult a doctor to minimize risks and complications.

Many people try to use nutrients and supplements to repair tissue that has been damaged. Before taking any minerals, make sure that you consult a doctor because many can be harmful, especially to children. He or she will examine you thoroughly and even can advise you on some nutrients you can take to achieve your desired results.

If you notice some mental fatigue or want to increase cognitive function, your first step should be to try and obtain vitamins and supplements through food. For example, many individuals choose to eat blueberries because they are an antioxidant and are extremely health. There are other foods that help with improving mental functioning such as raisins, berries, apples, spinach and cherries.

These can dramatically reduce memory loss and restore motor balance. Too much simple carbohydrates can be detrimental to the body because they produce a rise in blood sugar so you should try and eat foods high in complex carbohydrates such as peanuts, beans and yogurt. Normally natural enhancers and vitamins are better than unnatural ones.

There are several foods to avoid because they are not good for your mind. For example, you will want to avoid certain fats, which can inflame your brain tissue and can produce blood damage. They can also decrease blood circulation. Certain oils are not good for the mind also and should be avoided. Sugars should be avoided which can affect the amount of glucose in the blood within the brain. This can lead to damage to the cells.

You may want to try high quality minerals and additives first however many times the lower priced ones work just as well. You will want to give the supplements adequate time to work in your body. You may want to take some multivitamins to insure your mind is performing at an optimal level and invest in antioxidant vitamins to help clean out the brain.

Omega-3 has been known to help mental functioning and mood which can effect IQ and brain development. Fish can be a great way to get Omega-3. Selenium can be found in grains and meats along with seafood and can be a great way of changing the mood of the individual. Vitamin E can also help with blood circulation which can improve functioning.

Folic acid has been known to address Alzheimer’s disease as well as age related memory loss. The B ones can improve memory and can help minimize stress and again assist the mind in development. There are a variety of items on the market so make sure you research their effects and also acknowledge the risks and side effects.

There are many minerals that you can take to help with intellect and mental functioning. As long as you consult a doctor, there are safe supplements that you can take that will lead to lasting results.

Brain vitamins help support memory, concentration and overall cognitive performance by aiding the circulation of blood and oxygen to the brain which helps to remove unwanted toxins. To know more, visit http://www.goodelements.com

Living Healthy-3 Secrets to Healthier Living

Posted under Health on Tuesday 14 July 2009

Life is all too short. Find ways to really live and enjoy it to the fullest everyday will help you make the best of every precious moment of it. Here are 3 secrets to living a longer healthier life.

Eat Well-What you feed your body determines how you feel, how you look, and how you feel about yourself. And all of these and directly related to how much and well you are able to really enjoy doing the things you love.

The term eating well has been used so often, it’s sometimes hard to define exactly what that means. A balanced is first on the list. This includes fruits, vegetables, high fiber, multi-grains, and lean meat, fish, and foods that are low in sugar and salt.

Organic foods give you the assurance that chemicals have not been used in growing or manufacturing, and sumptuous taste is well worth the additional cost.

For those of us who love to eat, this kind of diet can sound limiting and even harsh. But a walk down different aisles of your supermarket will yield a number of pleasant surprises.

There are delicious vegetable burgers, tasty low fat hot dogs, and dozens of yummy choices for dessert that are lower in calories but not in flavor.

Gelatos, sorbets, and frozen yogurts are just a few delicious alternatives waiting for you to try. You’ll find that a body that you thought was losing it, can look healthier, and younger again as you start thinking outside the box about the foods with which you fuel your body.

Keep Moving-A hundred years ago, daily life demanded physical activity. There were very few cars, elevators, escalators, washing machines, vacuums, or any of the other modern conveniences that make our lives so easy now. So there was no need to go to the gym because daily living required constant activity.

Now with vacuums that move on their own, multi-car families as the rule, subways, high rise buildings that demand use of an elevator, and remotes for everything, you can go through a whole day without moving very much at all.

Lack of movement may seem like a convenience, but is really hazardous to your health. If you don’t use it, you lose it has never been more true. What do you lose? Muscle tone, endurance, and energy are greatly decreased with limited activity.

But with such a busy lifestyle, how can you work in activity without adding hours to the day that you just don’t have? Use half of your lunch hour for a walk. Park farther from the store and walk. If you love to work in the garden, do it often. Consider getting a bicycle and riding with your children. Dance with the vacuum as you clean the house. And my personal favorite, get a dog and go for a walk every day.

Breathe Fresh Air-An 88 year old perky friend of mine keeps her house absolutely frigid. Even in the winter her windows are always open just a little. She attributes her long life and good health to breathing fresh air. Wow, what a concept.

But where does one get fresh air these days? Depending on where you live, opening the windows may let in more pollutants than fresh air, but the concept of always introducing new indoors is a healthy one.

If opening your windows is not a possibility, a high efficiency particle arresting (or HEPA) air purifier is and excellent solution for keeping the air inside your home fresh, clean and healthy.

HEPA air purifiers can remove pollutants as small as .3 microns includes household dust, dust mites, mold and mildew spores, pet dander, and bacteria and viruses. All of these are known to trigger respiratory conditions such as allergies and asthma.

And filtering your air 24 hours a day is even better than opening the windows because it allows you to keep the temperature comfortable all the time.

Making changes in these three areas of your life with make living healthier fun, and will make life more fun to live.

An excellent HEPA air purifier to help you live a healthier life by removing pollutants from your air is offered by PurerAir.com– the HealthMate Air Purifier See it now at http://purerair.com/healthmate_hm400.html

Gout Pain and Early Symptions Are Easily Treated

Posted under Health on Tuesday 14 July 2009

Gout is one of the most painful types of arthritis and accounts for 5% of all cases of arthritis. It is characterized by sudden, severe nighttime bouts of redness, warmth, pain and inflammation in one or more joints. Most commonly, the big toe is the initial joint involved, but other joints in the foot, ankle or knees can become involved in recurring attacks.

Gout results from the deposit of Uric Acid crystals in the joint space. Uric acid is the end product caused by the breakdown of purines. Purines are naturally found in the body and are in many foods, especially proteins. Gout can occur if the body provides too much uric acid, doesn’t eliminate enough uric acid through the kidneys and bladder, or if too many foods high in purines are consumed. Being overweight is another risk factor for gout.
Gout can occur in many joints of the body, with the big toe being the most common. The top of the foot and the ankle are the other most common locations for gout attacks in the foot. Usually the pain is sudden and severe. The condition itself can be so painful that the weight of a simple bedsheet on the affected area is excrutiating.

It also can cause the deposit of a thick white substance called “tophi”. Tophi is essentially a deposit of crystallized uric acid which can become very painful and disfiguring. In severe cases it can cause destruction of the bone and cartilage. Although it may seem harmless when it first appears, this condition must not be ignored; and seeking medical treatment is necessary.

There are many treatments for gout. When an acute attack occurs, strong anti-inflammatory medication prescribed by a doctor is needed. Drink plenty of water. Avoid alcohol, especially beer, and foods high in purines. It is important to note that purines are found in all protein foods, particularly meat. Foods that are recommended by the American Medication Association for people with gout are: fruits, vegetables, breads, cereal, pastas, fish and carbonated beverages. And best of all, chocolate is “OK” as well.

If you ever experience a severe pain in your foot that starts for no reason, it could be gout. Start by applying ice, take ibuprofen (if tolerated) and elevate the foot. If nothing changes in 12-24 hours, then get an appointment. Seeing a podiatrist for gout is highly recommended because their specialty is in treating conditions involving the foot, ankle and lower leg. Gout pain can be quieted relatively quickly with specific medication.

Dr. Chris Milkie, a Board Certified Wauwatosa Podiatrist, has treated thousands of foot problems since 1991. He is the first, and only, podiatrist in Wisconsin to offer a Laser procedure, which is the newest and most effective treatment for toenail fungus on the market today. New Reports On Chinese Drywall Suspect Radiation Contamination

Posted under Health on Monday 13 July 2009

New reports may have pinpointed the source of contamination for many are claiming is contaminated Chinese drywall. The L.A. Times reported that the root cause of the contamination of the Chinese drywall may be a radioactive phosphorus substance known as phosphogypsum. Phosphogypsum is banned in the United States, namely because prolonged exposure has been shown to increase the chance of the development of lung cancer. While regulations exist in the U.S. to prevent the use of phosphogypsum in construction materials, there are no such regulations in place in China; it has been used by Chinese manufacturers for almost a decade.

The construction material in question was imported between 2000 and 2007, though by some estimates the imports of Chinese drywall to the U.S. jumped 17-fold between 2005 and 2006. The construction boom in the U.S., specifically in Gulf coast regions of the Southeastern United States decimated by hurricanes Katrina and Rita saw such a demand for construction materials that many suppliers were completely sold out of their domestic supplies of drywall. Turning to imports made sense for several reasons; Chinese drywall was readily available and plentiful in addition to the significant cost savings over domestically constructed drywall. This alluring offer had several importers and construction supply companies jumping at the chance to simultaneously save money and profit from their corner on the market.

However, whatever profits and benefits the Chinese drywall held previously, the alleged health concerns far outweigh the benefits. Claims of strange odors emanating from homes containing the imported drywall began to surface over the past few years, along with reports of corrosion of copper, mirrors, electrical wiring and even antique silver. More alarming than the aesthetic concerns of tarnishing and corrosion were the reported health problems supposedly brought about by exposure to defective Chinese drywall. Respiratory problems, sinus blockages, and fatigue were all common reports from homeowners living in dwellings containing the imported drywall. Upon further investigation, toxicologists reported the drywall was contaminated with some substance which caused it to leak some toxic gas into the home. Originally, it was speculated that the defective drywall was leeching a sulfur gas into the houses, thus causing the corrosion and reported health problems. However, if the claims of phosphogypsum contamination are true, the radiation emitted from the radium present in the drywall could be the cause of more health problems in the long term.

A home potentially contaminated with toxic drywall can be an overwhelming burden on a homeowner, especially in difficult economic times. It is therefore advisable for any individual who believes they have been negatively impacted by defective Chinese drywall to contact an experienced attorney at their earliest convenience. A potential class action lawsuit could provide a homeowner or landlord with enough monetary compensation to replace the drywall and deal with any lasting health concerns.

Individuals seeking information regarding defective Chinese drywall are encouraged to visit LegalView.com for access to a wealth of resources, including developing a Chinese drywall lawsuit and contacting a Chinese drywall lawfirm.

4 Steps To Relieve Back Pain Now

Posted under Health on Monday 13 July 2009

Trying to relieve back pain can be a frustrating task. You will find many ways to ease your back pain, but what about the cause?

You may have been urged to pop a pill or take a potion and hope your back pain woes will end. You know that these methods will only ease your pain, and then it will return again at some stage. Symptom removal is good in those initial stages, you still need to remove the cause. Why?

If the causes remain, your back pain will return. The frightening part is not that it returns, but statistics say that it will be worse the second time around. As you get older, if you continue to neglect to remove the cause, you can expect your older years to be full of pain. Something I’m sure neither you nor I want.

Can you relieve back pain naturally? Healing back pain surely requires some medical intervention. Or does it?

If you are trying to remove the causes, then the natural approach is best. Why?

There are only two main causes of back pain, your muscles and joints. There are others that are less common such as disc injuries, spinal stenosis and other diagnoses that may scare you.

The serious conditions such as these are usually due to the fact that minor back pain issues have been left untreated. This leads eventually to the more serious back pain conditions. Another reason why you need to find and remove the causes of your back pain now.

Trying to relieve back pain is easy if you do it early. It only ever involves four simple steps.

1. First find the cause, identify which muscles are out of balance and which joint distortion patterns exist.
2. Balance the muscles by relaxing those that are tight and strengthening those that are weak.
3. Realign your spine and rebalance your pelvis (a vital element).
4. Improve your healing and recovery rates.

Now this may sound complicated and a little daunting. However it isn’t.

Healing back pain is simple, quick and can be done naturally. Stretches are a natural technique, as is self-adjusting your spine, if you wish to improve your healing or recovery rates then you can only do this via natural processes.

Does medicine have its’ place?

Sure medicine will help, it is very effective at easing your symptomatic pain. Medication and the same applies to natural substances, only deal with your symptoms. They do not correct the underlying causes.

Do You Need Long Term Care Insurance

Posted under Health on Monday 13 July 2009

If you have trouble going to the bathroom on your own, then you have a long term care insurance need. Anyone that has trouble with the activities of daily living is a candidate. Those living with or born with a form of mental retardation and seniors developing the early onset of Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease are also available for this policy.

It’s assumed that only senior citizens’ have a long term care insurance need, but that’s just not the case. Almost 40% of long term policy holders are under the age of 65. Reasons stemming for the need can be passed down through generations of family members or they can come on suddenly in the form of tragic accidents that leave a person crippled.

Long term care can come in the form of therapy or live in nursing. Assisted living is also a form of long term care that can be covered under this type of policy. There are several circumstances that fall under long term care insurance need, and all of them are serious issues that shouldn’t be taken lightly. A savings fund meant to sustain a person for a number of years can become quickly depleted without a sufficient policy.

The most economical option would be to move in with family or have a family member take up residence with the person who needs care. Sometimes, this isn’t a viable option. Even if it’s a great option, pride can keep an independent person from reaching out. Embarrassment is a normal feeling when someone first realizes that they can no longer take care of themselves.

Often, senior citizens living with a long term care insurance need don’t want to leave their homes that they’ve come to know and love. A familiar setting might be all that they have to hold onto. A long term care policy could mean the difference between being able to afford in-home assistance and losing everything.

Once a long term care patient finds a policy that is right for them, then the worry is over. If you’re able to meet the financial requirements of the policy, the only way you can lose it is if you get better. A blessing many have prayed for. The chances of this occurring are slim, but it has happened before.

Insurance companies that offer policies to individuals with a long term care insurance need only offer the full range of coverage in the U. S. And the U. K. It isn’t known whether more countries will have this type of coverage in the future, but it is unlikely. Insurance companies already do everything they can to avoid losing money.

Wanting to avoid the loss of funds doesn’t make insurance companies evil. It’s good business, and it means that they have more money to make available to the customers who are already covered. If you have a long term care insurance need then you probably don’t want to hear that, but it’s true. Long term care policies aren’t right for everyone, even though the need may be great. If considering one, be sure to weigh all your options.

Weight Loss Occurs When You Burn More Calories Than You Consume

Posted under Health on Monday 13 July 2009

I have found that, most weight loss related problems boil down to one source: FOOD.

If you are not making progress, and your weight loss efforts have stalled, first, ensure that your weight training and aerobic exercises are being performed properly and consistently; then analyze your food intake.

Food is the biggest hurdle that most of us contend with in terms of getting into top shape. The reasons are many and complex.

Thus, if you are not achieving results, the first thing to do is to check your food intake. Are you eating the right amounts of the right foods at the right times? If you find that you are doing everything else right, and are still not making progress, the way to get back on the path to progress is to carefully analyze the type and amount of food you have been eating. Most likely, the problem is one of excess calories. Even if you are eating the best foods for your body, taking in more calories than you need causes you to accumulate fat.

If you find that you are eating properly, then check to see how well you are adhering to the exercise guidelines for your workout regimen. If you find you are not on track, adjust accordingly and continue on.
It is a physiological fact that, in order to lose fat, you must take in less calories than you use on a daily basis over a consistently long period of time. This is the only sure-fire way to guarantee steady and continual progress. But how do you go about analyzing if you are eating the correct number of calories for yourself?

Several things come into play…Planning is paramount of course. So you must plan your diet for each and every day. If you don’t there is a greater chance you will eat something not on your list of permitted foods to eat for the day. When you have a plan you are more likely to stick with it than a haphazard “I’ll just try and eat good today.”

Along with this planning goes tracking. You must be able to know precisely how many calories you are putting into your body each and every day, and each and every meal. This sounds tedious I know, but it is essential to your success. You must make sure you keep on the course to maximum fat loss and lean muscle gain.

In almost every single instance where someone complained to me of their lack of progress I was able to trace it down to the simple fact they were taking in too many calories for the amount of energy they were using.

Here’s an example for those that have had a hard time losing fat to see that everyone truly can lose their body fat. Although this is an extreme example I use it to make a point.

Let’s say I were to take a man (or woman) who had the hardest time in the world losing fat (or weight) and suddenly and quickly took away ALL access to any food at all (but kept water intake plentiful) what do you think would happen? Would this person lose fat and weight? How long do you think without ANY access to food would it take for this person to drop body fat?

You and I both know that this person would lose body weight very rapidly. In fact they would eventually die due to the lack of food. What would this person’s body look like then? Probably very skinny with little fat on his/her body. The point I’m trying to make here is that there is a caloric level for everyone that if calories are lowered beneath, fat loss will start to occur. It’s inevitable and a physiological certainty.

Now of course I don’t advocate going without any type of food, as this is unhealthy and dangerous. However, how can you use the information from this example to help you achieve consistent and predictable fat loss?
You’ll be able to lose fat easily and consistently By PRECISELY controlling the calories going into your body EVERY SINGLE DAY and keeping those calories slightly less than you need to maintain your current body weight. There really is no magic here.

Now, you have to weigh every single solitary morsel that passes between your lips. You have to become religious about this. Over a 2-week time period you will have a really good estimate of how many calories your body needs to maintain itself. This is an important part of your success because we all tend to over-estimate our portion sizes. Failing to weigh your food will be an almost guaranteed ticket to failure. Yes, it’s a pain in the rear, but you’ll only have to do it for 12 weeks. Look at it as a small price to pay for the body you’ve always wanted.

At the end of 12 weeks you’ll have become so good at knowing what the correct portion sizes are for you that you’ll be able to estimate your portion sizes visually. This will help you maintain your weight loss and lead a healthy lifestyle.

What Eyelid Surgery Means To You

Posted under Health on Monday 13 July 2009

Eyelid Surgery can be performed in the office or hospital. You can go home the same day. Eyelid Surgery (blepharopasty) is a very popular procedure and is great for taking years off someone’s appearance.

It is also useful in making one look less fatigued by eliminating those “bags” from under the eyes.

Skin and fat (pockets of fat are what makes the eyes look puffy) are removed from the upper lids and the incision closed near the natural skin crease of the eyelids so it will be well hidden. (The upper eyelid skin tends to heal exceptionally well.) The lower lids are done in a similar way. The incisions can be made just under the eyelashes where they too will be well hidden. In some patients, the fat can be removed from inside the lower lids and thereby leave no external traces at all. Following the procedure, you will have a younger, fresher looking appearance!

What Happens after my Surgery? Ice packs are applied immediately to reduce swelling. The eyelids can remain visibly swollen and bruised for up to two weeks. Sutures are removed after a few days and one can resume normal activity relatively quickly.

Common questions about eyelid surgery are: Will Eyelid Surgery affect my vision?

No. Eyelid surgery has no effect on vision or the eyeball. However, I would recommend that all patients see their eye doctor before this surgery to make sure they have no underlying visual problems.
I can’t see because my eyelids are hanging over my eyes.

Am I a candidate for Eyelid Surgery? Definitely. The removal of upper eyelid skin and fat will solve your problem. In most cases health insurance will cover the cost of this procedure.

I have to look good for my Job. How much time off should I take from work? Allow two weeks for the swelling and bruising to subside before returning to work.

Care after the eyelid surgery - blepharoplasty
1. Your plastic surgeon will instruct you to keep your head elevated for several days.

2. Cold compresses are used to reduce swelling and bruising.

3. This lasts between several weeks to a month.

4. Doctors recommend eye drops since your eyelids may feel dry at first and your eyes may burn or itch.

5. For the first few weeks you may also experience excessive sensitivity to light.

6. Temporary changes in your eyesight, such as blurring or double vision.

7. Once the stitches are removed the swelling and discoloration around your eyes will gradually subside.
