Your Complete Guide to Yoga Blankets and Other Accessories

Posted under Fitness on Tuesday 30 June 2009

Even though the art of Yoga is very ancient, the introduction of using accessories during yoga such as mats, blankets, and blocks is a relatively simple one. The accessories that people can use range from those that are essential, like yoga mats, to those that are fun and nice to have. It can be really confusing for the beginning yogi to figure out what they might need for a successful career with yoga, but here is a quick and thorough run down of facts that you should know about your Yoga equipment.

First of all, there is not just one form of yoga study; in fact there are several. The basic key rule to remember about blankets or any other type of accessory is that if you think it will help you achieve poses correctly, use it! Yoga is all about adopting postures for the body to bring it to a state of equilibrium. A yoga mat is vital for practice, and it does not matter if you choose a non slip mat, one that is sticky, or one that is old in tradition. It is important that you have the best surface available to you to ensure that you get the most out of every pose and every workout that you take on. The most popular style of mat is the Sticky Mat.

Next we have yoga blocks. These are simple little blocks that can help stretch, strengthen, and align the body without strain being put on the other muscles. Sharpening focus and awareness are what you need to concentrate on when it comes to yoga or any other discipline, for that matter.

You can align your body without strain by easing into more difficult positions and poses and strengthening, supporting, and stretching your body. They open up the possiblilities of letting your body stretch better, longer, and farther than without using the yoga blocks.

They basically shorten the distance that is between you and the floor, so users have a stable ankle point that they can use to reduce strain on all parts of the body. Yoga straps help you reach the points and limbs on your body that are usually out of reach. You can also hold poses longer with greater flexibility, and they come in various sizes and color. Yoga blankets and rugs provide more cushion than the sticky mats, and they also absorb sweat better. To avoid slipping on hardwood floors, users should use rugs, mats, and blankets under their feet.

Finally we have yoga bags and totes, and while some of these will only carry blankets or mats, others will have room to carry many accessories along as well. Transporting yoga equipment can be a really big hassle, so if you have a lot of blocks, bricks, and blankets you will want a bag that can carry it all.

Also, organic food was a tad smaller than chemically boosted no organics. But today, as more and more people are switching to organic, the prices are getting lower and the quality is getting higher.

Organic food is simply healthier than no organics. For instance, farmers who are switching to organic are required to clean their soil from chemical pesticides, a months long process. Each food item market organic goes through very strict guidelines in order to pass as organic foods.

Dietary professionals even consider organic as the backbone of the best diet plan: for its nutritional value and lack of chemical additives and genetic interference. Organic really is the best way to eat.

Some Fantastic Tips On Getting A Colon Cleanse

Posted under Health on Tuesday 30 June 2009

You might have read about the benefits of a colon cleanse. If you are just starting and you have never done a colon cleansing before, here are some tips so you know what to expect.

Firstly, you need to know that not every colon cleanse works the same. The results of a colon cleanse can vary vastly depending what type of cleanser you use. There are natural methods and “not so natural ones”. What you want is an all natural treatment. Why? A Natural Colon Cleanse does not contain harsh and strong chemicals like laxatives and it works as well as a chemical one. This is why we only recommend natural ones.

Benefits of a Colon Cleanse

You certainly might know how colon cleanses are often advertised for weight loss and fitness purposes, but did you know that there are many, many more benefits coming with a colon cleanse?

A colon cleanse will help with a lot of conditions like colds, diarrhea, constipation, flu, fatigue, stress, even headaches, and much, much more.

What the cleanse does is that it flushes and detoxes your body “from within”, at the root of so many health problems.

Despite those health benefits, a colon cleanse is also an excellent and preferred way to lose weight and stay in shape, as we all know.

When you start with the procedure it can be very common to experience gas and bloating in the first days of treatment. No reason to worry. This is normal. Odd looking stool can also be observed occasionally. Those stools are being passed during bowel movements and are no reason to worry either.

Sometimes, stools may even contain “bugs” like parasites or worms. No reason to panic, this can happen and it is the result of how our body purges from all the harmful toxins and waste which has built up in the colon over a long time.

It is also common that we might need a few treatments in a row: The harmful and toxic buildup in the colon walls may have accumulated over many years and years, so don’t be surprised if it needs more than one run to entirely clean the colon from all its waste.

Very important: Be patient and follow the cleansing regimen thoroughly, all the way to the end. The results may not come instantly and from one day to the other - but nevertheless they will come. Just be patient and follow the regimen. Make sure to stick with the program. Also, read the instructions carefully.

A colon cleanse is a very powerful and effective, holistic approach to many health conditions, since it attacks those conditions “from within”. Many health problems can came from and have their roots right there, in our colon.

A natural colon cleanse is not only an excellent way for losing weight especially around the tummy region. It will give you an overall boost of body energy and health and it makes way to an overall fitter and healthier life style.

What Is An Electronic Cigarette?

Posted under Health on Tuesday 30 June 2009

Technology brings us products everyday, and now if you are a smoker, there is a healthier solution known as an Electronic Cigarette. E-Cigarettes are legal where regular smoking is not.

Basically this is a small electronic device that delivers nicotine in a traditional inhalation manner. There are several different designs available some look like a normal cigarette, and others, are more techno and look similar to a pen or cylindrical device.

The whole point is to allow you the habit of smoking in places that normal smoking is not allowed.

These E Cigarettes are healthier in several different ways. First of all, you are not inhaling a bunch of chemicals that normal cigarette smoke contains. You’ll be inhaling a glycol nicotine mix, and that’s it, no other chemicals.

Then of course comes the fact that it is not smoke at all, and is therefore easier on your lungs. It’s not that an addiction to nicotine is not dangerous it’s just that it’s a healthier delivery system than traditional smoke.

You’ll also find that an electronic cigarette offers you the same busyness that traditional smoking offers you such as inhaling and something in your hand. It actually is dead or not working until a sensor inside detects inhalation, so not only can you play with it, but also you are not wasting it either.

For some people the e cigarette can be a way to slowly but gently quit smoking. You’ll simply reduce the amount of nicotine or times that you inhale. Instead of ridding your body of all the chemicals that come with regular or traditional cigarettes, you’ll only have to worry about the nicotine addition.

Of course, for those who smoke in their home, the advantages can be tremendous. Not only are you not putting other family members at risk with second hand smoke, but smoke damage in your home is reduced. Not only will your home once cleaned not smell, but neither will your clothes.

And of course, you can look at the money saved on your vehicle as well. Most people realize that smoke damage in a vehicle decreases its worth and e-smoking while it may leave nicotine does not leave the other smoke damage that is so costly in a vehicle.

Technology is producing new product for us everyday, and electronics now offer smokers a new delivery system that is safer in a variety of ways.

Are you aware of the advantages of the electronic cigarette? You need to visit http://www.bigboxstore.com/health-beauty/health-care/smoking-cessation to find more details on the better alternative to conventional smoking.

5 Minutes a Day to Build and See Your Six Pack Abs

Posted under Fitness on Monday 29 June 2009

Having a visual six pack mid section is the number one goal of almost everyone who works out and is the top indicator of a fit person. Having abs that ripple and show is not as hard or as complicated as some would have you think. It comes down to 3 simple steps that requires less than 5 minutes per day.

Your mid section is comprised of basically two muscle groups, the external obliques and the rectus abdominis. The rectus abs are the “six pack” muscles and the obliques fill in between your abs and your back muscles. To have a visually appealing ab area you must train both muscle groups. The three largest mistakes people make are over training the abs, under training the obliques and using poor form. These muscle groups work in tandum and to get the most development they must be trained equally. Neither will develop fully with imbalanced training, a lot like bi’s and tri’s or quads and hamstrings.

The most important single aspect of effective abdominal training is good form. It’s more important than the amount of weight used and harder to do with core work because they are not really large muscles, meaning they tire quickly, and for most people they aren’t “visible” so you can’t see them work as easily. Tired muscle overworked with poor form exercise, trains nothing.

The first step is to train the rectus abdominals. There are plenty of good ab exercises, but I use a cable machine and do Kneeling Cable Pull Downs. These are effectively crunches but done kneeling and pulling a cable down towards the floor. These are excellent because you can keep adjusting the weight, either up or down, to get the best full range of motion while allowing your form to stay good.

The second step is to again use a cable machine and do Woodchoppers. Place the cable high and assume a position that allows you to swing your torso around and down as if to swing an ax chopping wood. Again, using cables allows for correct weight choice.

For the above exercises you could do crunches and use a dumbbell for chops if a cable machine isn’t available. Do an AVERAGE 30 good reps of abs, and on each side of obliques taking as many sets as you want every day, meaning today do 60 reps, tomorrow none, and so on. Or do 30 every day.

The third and final step is to get the abs to show. This requires you to, with all else in your life equal, burn an extra 300-500 calories a day. The easiest and fastest way to do this is to not eat it in the first place.

Liposuction Of The Various Body Parts

Posted under Health on Monday 29 June 2009

Liposuction is a surgical method that can be used to remove fats from the body and helps a person to lose weight. It does not have to be used only as a weight loss mechanism but can even be used to improve the body contour by toning the muscles of the body. When a person fails to take in healthy foods and does not exercise, fats tend to accumulate between the skin and the muscles. Liposuction removes this type of fat and thus gives the body a better shape and makes a person look attractive. Liposuction can be carried out on various parts of the body like the face, neck, thighs, abdomen, back etc.

Liposuction can be successfully carried out on the abdominal area of both men and women. Most people find it very difficult to tone their abdomen and so a lot of fat gets accumulated in the abdominal area. The lower abdomen is not affected by a diet and exercise routine and tends to have the maximum fat accumulated in it. When the fats in the abdomen are located directly beneath the skin, they can be easily removed by different liposuction techniques. When fat gets accumulated deep inside the skin like in between the intestines, the process of liposuction cannot be used effectively because it might lead to several complications.

A lot of fat bulges out in the flanks area of both men and women. Liposuction can be successfully used to remove this bulging fat. The surgery of flanks for the removal of excess fats must be done under local anesthesia so that patients can easily roll over without causing a problem in the movement of the breathing pipe.

Liposuction of the hips is commonly opted for by women. Women tend to retain lot of fats in their hips and thus the method of liposuction can be effectively used to remove this fat deposit. This surgery must be done under general anesthesia. The liposuction of the hips helps a person to get a better body contour.

When fatty tissues have to be removed from the buttocks, the process of liposuction is the best suited one. However, the surgeon who performs the surgery must ensure that excess fats are not removed from the area. This is because buttocks act a cushion on which one sits and also improve the appearance of the body. Fats are mainly removed from buttocks to get a better body shape.

Arms may get a lot of extra fats deposited and to remove this fat, liposuction can be used as an efficient surgical technique. The liposuction of arms helps a person to get a better body contour. The process of liposuction can also be used for removing excess fats from the tummy. It is generally used when a diet and exercise routine do not help people to lose weight. Enlarged breasts in both men and women can be due to imbalanced hormonal growth. When the enlargement of breasts is due to excess fat deposits, liposuction can be used as an effective technique to remove this fat.

Liposuction guide provides information on safe and easy ways to remove fat deposition without going for surgical sutures. The website is a genuine source to give you a perfect sculpted body, by using the benefits of liposuction.

Mommy Makeovers Gain Popularity

Posted under Health on Monday 29 June 2009

Mommy makeovers are cosmetic surgery procedures that help boost women’s confidence, rejuvenate their appearance, and repair damaged muscle and skin that can occur during pregnancy and birth. Mommy makeovers have been around for many years, but have recently seen resurgence in popularity. Here are some things you need to know about this popular cosmetic trend.

Why are mommy makeovers in demand?

As plastic surgery techniques and technology improve, so do the results. Cosmetic surgery is not just for the rich and famous anymore. Procedures are aimed at maximizing individual beauty rather than creating one standard aesthetic. A mommy makeover doesn’t mean transforming into a Barbie doll, but rather looking like a more refreshed, fitter version of you.

Many mothers also find that it is impossible to repair damaged muscles and skin after giving birth one or many times. Exercise and diet cannot always make visible improvements, but plastic surgery can help tighten and fix the physical trauma caused by the birthing process. Being in better physical shape gives mothers the energy and confidence they need to take care of their children, families, and tackle on their many other responsibilities.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

What constitutes a mommy makeover varies by individual and plastic surgeon practices, but generally it describes a combination of procedures most commonly aimed at repairing post pregnancy bodies, but can include treating problems related to ageing as well. The most common procedures involved in mommy makeovers are tummy tucks liposuction, breast lift or augmentation, and facial fillers.

What are the benefits of a mommy makeover?

This procedure is a great way for overworked and stressed mothers to put themselves first for once. Cosmetic surgery can help boost confidence and self-esteem, as well as help women feel younger. It can help a woman feel rejuvenated and better prepared to deal with the difficulties of raising a family.

Choosing a mommy makeover can also be a wiser budget option. There are not anymore inherent risks with having multiple surgeries at once, which means you will save on recovery time and can get back to work sooner than if you were to have separate procedures. Many plastic surgeons also offer lower prices for combination packages as it also is more cost effective for them.

What are the costs?

How much a mommy makeover costs will depend on the individual, area, and plastic surgeon? They can rage anywhere from $5,000 to $20,000 depending on the extent of the surgery. There will also be recovery costs as well as medication, hospital stay (if necessary), transportation, and in some cases aftercare.

When is a good time to get a mommy makeover?

Be sure that you are financially ready as well as have ample time to rest and recover in peace. Most recoveries last at least two weeks, but may require as much as three to four depending on how many procedures you have at once and what they entail.

It’s important to have a close friend or relative available initially to help you with daily activities. If you have many small children who require a lot of attention, you may want to hire some temporary help or have a friend keep them occupied so they aren’t tempted to disturb you.

In Valencia, mommy makeover helps women return to their pre-pregnancy look. After so many sacrifices you have done, it is time to make yourself feel pampered and good. To know more, visit http://www.lussiermd.com

Dieting And Supplements Vs. Nutritious And Delicious Raw Food Benefits

Posted under Health on Monday 29 June 2009

When it comes to food, some people just eat whatever is available. They don’t stop to think about how it affects their body or their health. Others read labels and try to choose what’s as healthy as they believe possible. Then, there are people who really stop and think about everything that they eat. Usually they are the ones that try different diets to figure out which one will work best with their body. No matter which type of person you are, you can find out more about raw foods and how they keep your body healthier.

Surely you may have heard about fad diets that supposedly help you lose weight, but the problem with them is that you gain it back within a few weeks. They also aren’t good for your systemic health. A raw food diet is full of pure vitamins, minerals and enzymes that help your body naturally. Some people take supplements that have goji berries, acai berries, green tea and colon cleansers in them in order to lose weight and justify their health. However, there are so many chemicals in some of these “weight loss” products that aren’t healthy. The “colon cleansers” that are in some of these pills will have you going to the bathroom constantly. The natural cure that is in a raw diet can have you regular as well as feeling more energetic and vibrant.

Unprocessed and uncooked foods (preferably whole foods/organic) such as purified water, juice, legumes, seeds, beans, grains, nuts, dried fruit as well as fresh fruits and veggies are all part of this type of diet. At least 75% of the food must be living or raw to be considered a raw food diet. This means that you can eat sashimi, raw meats (cold smoked/cured meats), raw goat/sheep cheeses and more. Raw recipes for breads, bagels, wraps and pizza crusts that contain wheat grass, gazpacho/cucumber soups, cookies, cakes, ice-cream and smoothies can all be found online, at the library or at your local bookstore.

This diet contains less saturated fat/fewer trans fats than a typical Western diet. It is also lower in sodium/high in magnesium, fiber, potassium and folate. Plant chemicals called “phytochemicals” are associated with a reduction in illness and disease, specifically diabetes, cancer and heart disease. There are natural cures for many things from a variety of plants. Aloe vera is one that you can use for lots of things as well as it can be incorporated into juices and foods. Take a further interest in how raw foods can give you a new lifestyle now.

What You Should Know About Type 2 Diabetes

Posted under Health on Monday 29 June 2009

At best, you can still live a long life with type 2 diabetes. If you commit yourself to lifestyle changes to follow a healthier diet and exercise more often, then your symptoms will diminish and your risk of disease development will decline.

At worst, the consequences of diabetes can be as severe as needing a foot amputation, losing your teeth, suffering kidney failure, going blind, or having a heart attack or stroke. While the early symptoms may seem easy to ignore, Diabetes is a serious condition that requires careful blood sugar monitoring to ensure good health.

Scientists aren’t entirely sure what causes type 2 diabetes, although the process itself has been observed. In a normal body, a person digests food, which is absorbed into the bloodstream, with the help of insulin produced by the pancreas, and distributed to cells for energy consumption.

When the body is through using energy, the remaining insulin then lowers the amount of sugar in the bloodstream, which decreases the amount of insulin secreted from the pancreas. The liver stores and manufactures glucose when insulin levels are low. All these processes keep the body regulated and properly transporting energy throughout your system.

However, the system of type 2 diabetics has gone mad, and sugar builds up in the bloodstream rather than dispersing it to cells, because the cells have become resistant to insulin. By contrast, with type 1 diabetes, the body is just not producing any insulin.

The complications of type 2 diabetes are easy to ignore at first. So what if you have to pee every hour or you’re drinking constantly to quench your thirst? Who doesn’t feel a little bit tired or have a sudden pang of extreme hunger every once in a while? Yet doctors caution that diabetes can affect all major organs if left untreated, so it’s very important to monitor blood sugar levels.

The short term troubles of diabetes include high blood sugar, an increased number of toxic acid ketones in your urine, which can lead to a coma and low blood sugar, which may lead to unconsciousness. The long-term consequences are far more severe, with a significantly increased risk of developing heart disease, coronary artery disease, strokes, nerve damage, kidney failure, eye damage, foot injuries, tooth loss, skin infections, osteoporosis and Alzheimer’s.

Treatment for type 2 diabetes requires a lifelong commitment and lifestyle changes. You must adhere to healthy eating, regular exercise and blood sugar monitoring. Many people need to stay on prescribed medication or take insulin therapy.

Often diabetics feel alone but it’s important to remember that there is a whole support team of dieticians, doctors and loved ones ready to assist you with whatever you need. With control of blood sugar levels, the risk of a heart attack or stroke can be reduced by over 50%.

Why Hair Loss Occurs in Old Men?

Posted under Health on Monday 29 June 2009

A quick look at any family reunion picture and you will come to the conclusion that every male, senior member of the family is predestined to some form of hair loss. While some people are liable to just laugh off this incidence as a natural thing, it would be enlightening to find out just what it is that makes hair loss a regular occurrence especially in old men.

1. Hair Loss is a Prize of a Lottery

When we talk about genes, we’re talking about specific physical and chemical predispositions in a person’s biology that would manifest themselves after being encoded in a person’s genes. It’s a lottery because often, the chances of getting a particular genetic trait are something like one in a thousand cases.

Conditions like hair loss, while they are very ordinary are still the produce of genetic luck. If you have an ancestor that had been bald, there’s a chance that a few generations into the future, some great, great grand child of yours would be bald as well.

It’s impossible to tell who will be bald by just looking at people. A person’s head shape doesn’t tell you anything, except of course whether the person had been born naturally or through C-section.

2. Male Pattern Baldness

In medical parlance, male pattern baldness is called ‘androgenic alopecia’. This condition is often the result of a genetic switch being activated at a particular moment in a person’s life. Again, medical science cannot tell us yet how to turn off this genetic switch. Such is the progress of medical science in the field of hair studies.

If you’re planning to blame your mother for such a seemingly regressive trait, then don’t. Medical science states that the predisposition to accelerated hair loss or balding is actually autosomal in nature.

This means that the offending genetic trait could have come from your mother as well as your father. There’s no scientific proof that mothers are culprits in spreading the curse of baldness among their children.

3. Expressivity

If you want a term to describe what’s happening to your scalp right now, you can use the term expressivity. Expressivity is an overarching term in genetics that pertains to the capacity of a particular genetic trait to manifest itself.

If genes are codes, then a trait’s expressivity is the strength of a particular set of genetic codes to be felt or seen by the person himself. Some genetic traits have poor expressivity, so that’s why you may also have a bald gene in you but you just don’t know it.

4. Time to Splice and Re-Attach

One of the long-term aims of studies in baldness is the possibility of identifying the offending part of a person’s DNA that contains the code for baldness and somehow de-activate it.

The human DNA is now undergoing a continuous mapping process, and it’s only a matter of time before we have an accurate roadmap as to where the baldness traits are hiding. When this is achieved, it’s very possible that baldness will be eliminated, whether through specific drugs or through genetic alteration.

Effective Six Pack Abs Cardio That Will Burn Tons of Belly Fat

Posted under Health on Monday 29 June 2009

If you are looking for a good cardio routine that lasts only 20 minutes this will be something for you. What you can do is really easy, and fun, but it will give you great results when done 3 times per week.

The secret with cardio is to mix it up a little bit. So that is exactly what we are going to do. Imagine yourself doing 2-3 different types of cardio each week 3-4 times per week. That is what you will need to be doing, so here is the first kind of cardio that really works.

Hill Intervals - The hill intervals can be a real killer when you do them, but they are also really effective. Here’s how to perform this exercise.

Start at the bottom of a long hill, (preferably steeper the better you get) and run all the way to the top, then walk down slowly. Without resting go with all you got, one more time up the hill… and slowly walk down. Repeat this process for 6-12 reps. This will give you a deep burn in our muscles, and also get your blood flowing, your heart pumping and the body will burn fat like never before.

The second exercise is basic jobbing - This will not be new to anyone, but it still works. No matter what people are saying, jogging does still burn calories, but, mostly while you are running, so it has little after burn effect. Yes it has some after burn, but not as much as weight training or interval training. You want to run about 2-3 miles each time you run, and then once a week put in a longer distance, such as 5-10 miles. I know, right… 5-10 miles? This guy is crazy. Well, if you do run that far you will burn approximately 800-1,200 calories which mostly is fat, but also some muscle.

The third exercise I like is jump rope combined with my weight training. When you are doing your resistance training, add 100-200 jumpropes in between sets. So if you are supersetting pushups and squats, when you have done push-ups and squats, you would jump 100 times with the jumprope. Then do the pushups and squats again.

This will extend your workout, but get you lots of great benefits! You will increase the metabolism with the weight training and you will burn the fat with the jumprope. Perfect combination and I personally think it’s great fun!

How About A Digital Blood Pressure Monitor?

Posted under Health on Monday 29 June 2009

If you’re working to control your high blood pressure, you need to monitor the results you’re getting. The best way to do this, beyond visiting your doctor every day, is to monitor your blood pressure at home. And one of the best ways to do this is with a digital blood pressure monitor.

When the doctor sends you home with a new prescription or a new lifestyle plan, the only way to evaluate the success is by measuring the results. It’s like losing weight. If you never get on the scale, you have no information that tells you if you’re heading in the right direction or the wrong direction. In the case of blood pressure, you step into a blood pressure monitor.

There are several different kinds of digital monitors. All of them will do the trick (though none are quite as accurate as the one in your doctor’s office). A standard digital blood pressure monitor, for instance, comes with an arm cuff, a squeeze bulb, and a digital read out. These are generally the least expensive monitors. You can pick up a basic model for $25.

Digital blood pressure monitors that self inflate, also referred to as automatic monitors, are very similar. However, the cuff inflates with the touch of a button instead of manually. It also deflates automatically. There’s no squeeze bulb included. These are slightly more expensive (a base model running around $60), and you get more expensive models that have additional features such as a paper printout.

Both of these basic digital monitors require that you take a reading several times for complete accuracy. You can also get them with cuffs for the wrist or the finger as well as the arm. Though again, the accuracy isn’t as spot on as the one your physician uses and these are only recommended if you’re unable to use an arm cuff.

Home monitoring allows you the flexibility of measuring your blood pressure throughout the day. Morning, afternoon, and evening readings are generally more accurate than a single reading during one of these periods of the day, when other stress factors may be present. Home monitoring also eliminates the stress of being in a doctor’s office or traveling to and from the doctor’s office.

The keys in any monitor you choose are accuracy, ease of use, and an easy digital read out. For the most part, any digital blood pressure monitor will deliver these keys. It’s hard to go wrong as long as you have your monitor tested for accuracy once a year and make sure you record all your reading for your doctor to review.

A digital blood pressure monitor is an excellent way of providing your health care professional with the best information for understanding and managing your blood pressure.
