For Dedicated Followers Of Fashion

Posted under Beauty on Thursday 24 April 2008

There are many varying opinions on why people wear certain items of clothing, why they don’t and who dictates what’s fashionable and what isn’t.

Take the mini skirt for instance. Women were long constrained with corsets and covered in acres of fabric in the name of decency - and fashion. After the World War One, there was a revolutionising of what women were prepared to wear and how comfortable they wanted to be.

The twenties saw the loss of the corset and the introduction of the ‘flapper’ dress. This came with distinctly shorter hem lines than people were used to seeing and really was only for the highly fashion conscious. To this end, general trends dictated that longer, more modest skirts were the norm.

This continued until well into the sixties when the mini skirt became fashionable. The older generation viewed the mini with distaste and thought it demeaned women, making them look like tarts. Most of the younger generation saw it as a liberation that they could wear what they wanted without feeling restricted. It was also one of the few fashion inventions that set them apart from every other generation before them.

That is no longer the case today. I’m not quite forty yet and I see fashions repeating themselves. Had I known this would happen, I’d have kept my clothes from when I was younger although cramming yourself into what you were wearing twenty years ago just never looks as flattering after you’ve added a couple of extra stone!

The mini skirt is often attributed to Mary Quant but this is debateable. Designer John Bates brought the mini skirt into the public arena when he designed the wardrobe for the TV series - The Avengers. He took quite a chance with this as the programme was filmed a way in advance and he didn’t know if his choice of mini skirt would work in their favour or not. However, it did meet with favourable attention and within months Mary Quant had her own range of mini on sale.

Of course, the mini skirt would never have taken off if it weren’t for the invention of tights to replace stockings. Mini skirts and stockings truly are the attire of street walkers and not your dedicated follower of fashion.

Despite women seeing the mini as a sign of liberation, this soon changed in the seventies when the feminist movement brought midi and maxi skirts into play. It was the general opinion that women in mini’s were seen as dolly birds and not taken seriously and women wanted to get back to being seen as people and not playthings.

The mini still continues to come and go in the fashion scene and it seems that no sooner have you purchased this seasons trends that it all changes for something quite the opposite. This isn’t really a problem as not many people can afford to keep up with this way of paying into the business and almost anything goes when it comes to clothes these days.

In fact, one person can be wearing a fashionable mini one day and look just as comfortable the next day in a boho style long, floaty skirt. This is a true benefit as it allows for self expression in the clothes that we wear and what you choose each day can depend on what mood you are feeling in.

Whichever way things go in the future, it’s a sure thing that the mini is here to stay.

Fashion expert Catherine Harvey looks at the history of the mini and where it fits in today.

Diamond Eternity Rings Are A Beautiful Gift For Any Occasion

Posted under Beauty on Wednesday 23 April 2008

Diamond eternity rings are so beautiful and have such sparkle and fire that everyone admires them. While they originally were referred to as anniversary rings, these circles of diamonds are the ideal gift to commemorate any special event in a loved one’s life. Because the price of them is now much more within reach of the average jewelry buyer, they are more affordable than ever.

A diamond eternity is often given to commemorate a special milestone such as a major anniversary, the birth of a child or a major accomplishment. The particular occasion isn’t nearly as important as the sentiment that the ring is intended to convey. An eternity ring symbolizes that the love of the giver will last for all eternity; it is as never-ending as the circle of the ring of diamonds, which is precious and has no beginning and no end.

Today, more and more couples are choosing matching diamond eternity rings as wedding bands rather than using plain metal bands. The groom will usually wear a larger version of the bride’s ring with diamonds that are larger in size but in the same style as the bride’s ring.

Diamond eternity rings can be either full circle, with the diamonds completely encircling the ring, or half circle, with the diamonds going only half-way around the band. It is purely a matter of preference, although some people prefer the half-band for comfort if the diamonds are particularly large. Keep in mind that a half-band will also be easier to re-size if you gain or lose weight.

Eternity rings are available in wide variety of styles, from vintage-inspired designs to sleek, modern pieces. Materials include white, yellow or rose gold, platinum or titanium. The diamonds themselves can be cut in almost any style desired. The most popular tend to be princess cut and emerald cut because they fit snugly side-by-side in an eternity band, allowing for many diamonds close together on the ring; however, there are also lovely eternity bands with intricately mounted brilliants, marquis, baguette and round cut diamonds.

For more dramatic effect, some diamond eternity rings alternate two different cuts of stones such as baguettes and rounds. This creates added sparkle and gives the outer edges of the ring a scalloped effect where they follow the contours of the diamonds. It’s a lovely, lacey look that is delicate and sophisticated. More contemporary styles may feature channel set or bezel set stones that are flush with the surface of the ring itself.

The most traditional way for a woman to wear a diamond eternity ring is to place it behind her wedding band and engagement ring. Some women, however, choose to remove their wedding ring and wear the eternity ring in place of the wedding band, particularly if the setting enhances her engagement ring. Other women choose to leave their wedding and engagement rings undisturbed and wear their diamond eternity ring on their right hand where it can take center stage all by itself.

Men often reserve a diamond eternity ring to wear as their dress wedding band, wearing a plain band most of the time. This is often because they fear damaging a diamond ring, particularly if they work with their hands. However, diamonds are one of the strongest materials known to man, and if a ring is well made, it should hold up to most everyday wear and tear. If a man would like to wear an eternity ring every day, he should consider looking at bezel set or channel set diamonds, which are less likely to snag or come loose from their settings.

Selling Your Diamond - How is the Best Way to Sell Your Old Diamond Ring?

Posted under Beauty on Tuesday 22 April 2008

Although the old adage goes “Diamonds are forever”, sometimes they are not forever with regard to a single individual. There are a variety of reasons why one may wish to get rid of their diamond ring. Perhaps they have just gotten divorced and wish to rid themselves of all memories related to the prior marriage or maybe they have simply upgraded to a newer, bigger and better diamond and do not wish to hold on to the old diamond any longer. Whatever the reason behind the desire to dispose of the diamond ring may be, there are a few ways in which to sell an old gem of this type.

First Step: Have the Diamond Ring Appraised

Before even contacting any potential sellers with regard to the diamond ring, it is important to know exactly how much your ring is worth. The best way in which to do so is to have the piece of jewelry appraised by a certified appraiser. This individual will inspect the ring and determine the worth thereof by engaging in various observations and appraisal procedures. After the appraisal has been completed, it is a good idea to have the appraiser issue a certificate stating the results so that the seller can supply it to the buyer if so requested.

Second Step: Determine How You Want to Sell the Item

The next step is to determine how you wish to sell the item. There are many different avenues one can pursue with regard to selling their diamond ring. Some prefer to sell it through ads in the paper whereas others may find that online sales provide wonderful convenience and a great way to find a buyer for the ring. In addition, some jewelry stores may purchase used diamond rings and pay the seller up front for the ring. Any of these sales options provide a good way to sell an old diamond ring and provide the seller with money for their used diamond jewelry.

Final Step: Part with the Item

The final step, which is sometimes most difficult for individuals, is where one parts with their diamond jewelry. Although the gemstone is considered to be old, it may still hold some sort of sentimental value even though the current owner wishes to part with it. Arrangements need to be made with regard to passing the diamond jewelry over to its new owner. The diamond ring will be given to the buyer in exchange for the agreed upon sum of money.

Summary of Important Points

In summation, some of the steps one should take when selling their diamond ring to either individuals or jewelers include determining the worth of the item, deciding how you want to sell the piece of diamond jewelry and then taking that final step with regard to exchanging the gemstone for money. Selling an old diamond ring is often a big step in the lives of individuals who do so yet it is well worth it if they wish to get rid of the ring and receive some money in return for doing so.

2008 Hairstyles Features The Layered Look

Posted under Beauty on Monday 21 April 2008

You have probably heard the term layered applied to many of the latest 2008 hairstyles, but what does it really mean? Believe it or not, the term is fairly ambiguous, and both hairdressers and hair trend aficionados often disagree about its true meaning. The simplest definition is the creation of variable lengths of hair strands throughout an established hair cut, which sounds fairly straightforward if you think about it. Most of the disagreements and misinformation stem from the multitude of ways that layering can be used to enhance or alter an existing hairstyle.

Layering done by lifting individual strands of hair at different angles from their natural growth pattern and then cutting them to a specific length. When this is repeated in a uniform length and manner throughout the entire hairstyle, an all over layered cut is achieved. When strands of hair are held flat against the head without elevation, a zero layering hairstyle has been achieved, and when hair is held at an elevation of 45 degrees and cut, the result is a multi layered perimeter style.

The most common type of layering hairstyle is layering throughout the crown and the top of head, which allows hair to stand away from the head, giving it the appearance of greater volume. Your layered 2008 hairstyle may be done with traditional cutting scissors, thinning shears with one notched blade, a razor, or some combination of these.

The ideal texture for layering is coarse hair, followed by medium. Fine hair is least suited for layering, because if it is done improperly, it can actually make hair look thinner and wispy. Even coarse hair, when layered improperly, can look jagged, ragged, and choppy. Naturally curly hair is often layered improperly as well, since some stylists do not understand the special shaping techniques required. These examples are just some of the reasons why it is so important to find a professionally trained salon stylist.

Before visiting your salon stylist to obtain your new 2008 hairstyle, do some research. Look for layered hairstyle examples that appeal to you online and in magazines and bring them in to show your stylist during your consultation appointment. Ask the stylist whether your hair type, current condition, and texture can support your chosen stylist, and about the type of maintenance that such a style requires. Even if your stylist does not think that the styles you have chosen will work well for you, they will more than likely be able to come up with several alternatives that will appeal. Trust your stylist, and you will be well on your way to the 2008 hairstyle of your dreams.

Find A 2008 Hair Style To Compliment Your Body

Posted under Beauty on Monday 21 April 2008

When choosing a hairstyle, you probably look for one that will flatter the shape of your face and the condition and texture of your hair. What you may have forgotten to consider, however, is your body type. Just like the right outfit and the perfect accessories can make or break your appearance, the right hairstyle can similarly make you look heavier, thinner, frumpy, sexy, sleek, or scary. Well, hopefully not the last one, but you get the point. Your hairstyle says a lot about who you are, but if it is the wrong hairstyle for your body type, then it will likely send the wrong message and not flatter you at all.

If your body is slim and straight, the goal should be to add depth and curves whenever possible, which means that medium length, chunkier or wavier hair styles are best, as are long, layered bangs and angles. Just remember not to go too big, which will make your hair disproportionate to your body, and that hair that is too long, too straight, or too sleek will emphasize your boyish figure and may look masculine.

If you have a curvy, full body type, your best bet is a layered, medium length cut that will help to camouflage and soften extra weight. Side parts and bangs add a soft, complimentary look as well. Just be sure to stay away from hair that is too short and close to the head as well that hair that is very long and very full.

If you have a petite body type, you should strive to keep your hairstyle smooth, neat, and sleek, which means experimenting with medium to short layers and angles, including height at the top, or crown of your head. Of course, too short hair will make your head look a little on the small side, and hair that is too long can overpower your small frame. You should also avoid anything that might be considered cute, unless of course, that is the look that you are going for. The cute category includes high ponytails, pigtails, braids, etc.

Finding the perfect hairstyle for you may take some time, but the results will be worth it when you see just how flattering the right look can really be. Ask your stylist for some ideas, and do a little research on your own to find some styles that you like before your consultation appointment.

Ten Minute Hair Care Tips

Posted under Beauty on Monday 21 April 2008

If you are pressed for time, a ten minute hairstyle idea can be a life saver. We all want to look our best, but often times, our crazy busy morning schedules often make this task difficult, but thanks to these tips, not impossible.

These style ideas work well for medium length hair, but can be modified to work with other types. First curl your hair with a curling iron, which should take approximately eight to nine minutes, and adds instant glamour to any look. Spritz with a light hold hairspray and you are ready to face the day. If you have a few extra minutes, after your curls have cooled at least part way, give each one a slight finger wave to separate them and finish with a light hold hairspray.

No time for curls? Simply part your hair in the center to make two pigtails and then tie them with the accessory of your choice, which should take about one to minutes and is the perfect antidote to the I just rolled out of bed with no time to do my hair look. Pigtails arent just for grammar school anymore. Many celebs wear them, albeit with sophisticated twists like jeweled clips and accessories.

Prefer the classic girl next door look? Flip your hair forward and then back and pull it back into a ponytail, and if you have time, add some cute accessories and a spritz of leave in pomade or gloss. Ponytails are every womans best friend, since they, like pigtails, can turn messy bed head into sleek sophistication.

National Treasure star Diane Krugers signature style is a low slung sleek side ponytail that is flattering and sophisticated. If you have hair that is long enough, i.e. below your shoulders, than this is a look to try, although keep in mind that it is a hairstyle that will take more than ten minutes.

Once your hair is completely dry, create a side swept part, using a brush or your fingers to smooth your hair along the hairline and sides of your head. Then, pull all of your hair into a traditional side ponytail, positioning the base of the pony either behind the ear or underneath the ear lobe, using an elastic band that is the same color as your hair. Next, use a small to medium barrel curling iron to create one long soft curl that will drape over your shoulder, and take one strand of hair from the ponytail to wrap over the base, using a bobby pin that is the same color as your hair to secure it. Finish with a firm hold styling spray.

Would Teeth Whitening Brighten My Smile And My Life?

Posted under Beauty on Sunday 20 April 2008

A quick glance through any celebrity gossip magazine would instantly highlight the fact every actor, actress, sports star, IT girl or wannabe have unnaturally white teeth. In some cases celebrities’ teeth are gleaming so intensely it is the first, and only, noticeable thing. In the last decade teeth whitening has really taken off, today, anyone sporting bad or stained nashers is instantly slated by the press. With dozens of different methods, catchy names such as ‘zoom whitening’ and even DIY whitening kits available from chemists, what’s stopping you putting the star back in your smile?

Teeth can lose their colour very easily. The most common reason for discoloration is teeth getting stained from excess consumption of tea, coffee, fizzy drinks, alcohol and of course, cigarettes. Unfortunately even if you avoid the above, your teeth can simply discolour over time, since aging will naturally cause teeth to lose their shine. Additionally teeth discoloration is genetic, so if your parents’ teeth are tainted naturally, there is a very strong possibility your teeth will follow suit.

Before jumping on the bleached teeth band wagon, there are some definite steps to consider and be wary of. According to the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD) teeth whitening is the most popular form of dental treatment in the UK, however this huge amount of interest and popularity brings about a number of copy cat and knock off products, claiming to whiten teeth as well as the leading dentists can. Firstly the whitening process involves applying chemicals to the surface of teeth, which can damage the enamel, gums and other sensitive areas such as the lips, therefore it is always recommended that only qualified and experienced dentists should carry out the delicate procedure.

Unfortunately not everyone can afford the same dentistry options as the stars, however the DIY whitening kit from the chemists might not be as cost effective as first thought. There have been numerous complaints about these products, ranging from dislikeable taste to excruciating pain experienced in gums. To make matters worse, none of the reported whitening kits’ results have been as effective or successful as promised.

In conclusion don’t be afraid to contemplate whitening your teeth, you too can have a smile suitable for any celebrity gossip magazine. Teeth whitening procedures have come a long way in the last decade; it is now one of the safest, easiest and painless cosmetic surgery procedures available. Do not hide away your smile because you are embarrassed to show stained, aged teeth. Brighten everyone’s day with your pearly whites.

Smile!

Gemstones: Real, Fake or in Between?

Posted under Beauty on Sunday 20 April 2008

The technology surrounding the gemstone industry has been advancing at earth shattering speed. In the last 50 years, improved mining technology, newly developed treatments, the synthesis of gemstones and more wealth among consumers has made the gemstones market almost unrecognizable. For people shopping for gemstones, it can be intimidating and confusing to understand what they are buying. It turns out, it is not so simple as “real” or “fake”: there is a continuum of possibilities. Below is an outline of the different conditions that exist among the gemstones we find in jewelry.

Untreated: Gemstones with this label are the “purest” kind. These gemstones have not been manipulated by humans in any way (except for being cut and polished). In some gemstone categories, treatments are so common that it is close to impossible to find an “untreated” one and they can be very expensive. They are expensive because being untreated implies that they were of good clarity and color naturally: such gemstones are very rare.

Natural: Natural is a term that usually means “not man made”. This label is used for any gemstone that has come from the earth. Generally speaking, it does not necessarily mean it is “untreated”. Many gemstones can be called “natural” and still have gone through some kind of treatment to modify their appearance.

Genuine or “real”: These terms are used to assure us that the gemstone we are about to buy has all the mineralogy (physical, optical and chemical properties) of the gemstone it claims to be. It is important to know that being genuine does not necessarily mean it is natural, and it certainly does not mean it’s untreated. For example, a man made sapphire is still a “genuine” sapphire because it is the same substance. Any piece of blue corundum, no matter its origin, is a real blue sapphire.

Treated (Permanent treatment): The most common treatments among gemstones are usually permanent treatments. These are used to improve the appearance of the gemstone, usually its clarity and/or color. A permanent treatment is one that will not fade or wear off with time. Permanent treatments are more accepted than non-permanent treatments and these gemstones will be more valuable than those with non permanent treatments. The most common permanent treatment is heat treatment, but treatments vary significantly depending on the stone.

Treated (non-permanent treatment): Non-permanent treatments are less accepted and less valuable than permanent ones. This is because the attractive qualities that the treatment provides to the gemstone will not last forever. An example of a common non-permanent treatment is dying. Most dyed colors will eventually fade. In some gemstone categories, these treatments are even considered deceptive.

Synthetic or “created”: Gemstones that are given these labels are “genuine” gems that have been made by humans in laboratories. Not all gemstones can be made synthetically. Many gemstones that can be made synthetically are not because the costs of creating them are not much lower than the costs of finding them naturally. Commonly created gemstones include sapphire, ruby and spinel. In the case of pearls, this process is so accepted that it the norm, rather than the exception.

Imitation or “fake”: In the final category on this continuum are substances that pretend to be something they are not. For example, a jewelry maker can put a cut piece of blue glass in a ring and call it “imitation blue topaz”. In the case of “fake” stones, the value of the jewelry or the gemstone is not at all affected by what it is pretending to be. Such gems should only be bought for personal enjoyment or for fun, with the understanding that it is not something of great value.

Before buying a gemstone, it is important to research the possible treatments, synthetics and imitations beforehand and to ask the seller the right questions so that you know what you’re getting.

Keeping Diamonds To Stand The Test Of Time

Posted under Beauty on Sunday 20 April 2008

People in the diamond industry will know that when buying wholesale diamonds, there are many things to consider. The diamond business has long since been a big business for those specialising in jewellery designing and manufacturing. The average person is familiar with diamonds as an exquisite piece of jewellery, most famous for its purposes in impressing a loved one and when proposing to that loved one for the first time.

Wholesale diamonds is not just used for people in the jewellery and gifts business. This is also part of many different aspects of the world, particularly in technology. Diamonds are widely used for its hardness and naturally tough mineralogical properties as they are made from pure carbon atoms. These make for good substances for use in technological equipments, as they have lasting properties and good durability. Keeping your diamond well maintained is something that requires plenty of time and effort.

Without the right knowledge on keeping your diamond preserved, you could lose the quality of your diamond rapidly. Many people make the mistake in buying wholesale diamonds at a high quality, without realising just how important it is to keep them well preserved before going on to selling them. Even though the diamond is the toughest piece of gem, with it still being capable of holding its own in burning temperatures of up to 1292 degrees Fahrenheit before it starts to burn, a mere oil smear could lead to dirt and dust to gather and lose its shining sparkle.

The best way to keep your diamonds from losing its sparkle is by handling the gem as little as possible. This may sound near impossible if you are wearing a diamond set ring, but often you can neglect the quality of your diamond and some people are unaware of how to maintain their jewellery. In this instance it would be a good idea to seek advice from an expert, who will give you clear instructions on how to keep that sparkle in your diamond ring.

To keep the original quality as much as you can on your ring, try cleaning your diamond in soap and water, allowing the jewel to air dry and pat with a very soft cloth. For removing dirt from the crevices, dry using a worn out old tooth brush with soft bristles and gently rubbing off the dirt. If possible, you could try using a weak ammonia and water solution using a very soft bristled brush to clean the diamond.

Professional maintenance use ultrasound and steam method. The ultrasound method may affect the clarity of your diamond, and/or cause the stone to fall out its setting. Be sure to warn them in advance to take great care and check that the clarity of your diamond has not already been affected. For diamonds in a metal setting, extra care will need to be taken as some metals such as gold can scratch easily.

When buying loose diamonds wholesale, they will need to be handled with extra care. This can be achieve by keeping them stored in a very soft cloth pouches individually, keeping them together in one pouch with result in them rubbing together and chipping. There are specific settings that keep them from losing their quality, and will save time for you from the maintenance process. It is a good idea to understand these settings, which will help with keeping them lasting for a long period.

Anna Stenning is knowledgeable in the world of wholesale diamonds and maintenance of loose diamonds having gained experience in the jewellery business.

Rose Gold Jewelry Has Warmth and Style

Posted under Beauty on Sunday 20 April 2008

Rose gold jewelry is appearing on the scene this year as the latest backdrop to set off diamonds and gemstones with spectacular style and a unique touch. Diamonds and other gemstones have always sparkled set in more traditional yellow gold or white gold, but in recent years, and this year in particular, rose gold has become the choice of jewelry lovers everywhere. The unusual properties of rose gold jewelry make it a great eye-catcher as well as setting off your finest gemstones to their best advantage. When shopping for new jewelry this year, most won’t be finished until they have something in rose gold.

There is no such thing as pure gold jewelry. Pure gold is much too soft for jewelry making. It would bend, break and twist out of shape. Although it is mostly gold, there are alloys (other metals) added to the gold to give it strength, including silver, nickel and copper. These other metals affect the color of the gold. Rose gold has a higher copper content, giving the gold a warm tint that can range from a soft pink to a deep, glowing red depending on how much copper is used. The most popular rose gold jewelry is a warm, blush pink hue.

You may sometimes hear rose gold jewelry referred to as Russian gold because it was so popular in Russia in the 1800’s, but that popularity soon swept over Europe and the United States. In the Victorian era, most women wanted an engagement ring of rose gold from their fiance. The rosy color was seen as more romantic and elegant.

Today there are many reasons to love rose gold jewelry. For one thing, rose gold has rich warmth to it that suits any skin tone, warming up skin and imparting a healthy glow when warm next to the face. The soft pink is universally flattering to every complexion, so it is ideal for chains or pendants.

Rose gold jewelry is also great for mounting gemstones. The rich color is the perfect foil for just about every color of gemstone. It’s particularly prized for making diamond jewelry. While setting a diamond in yellow gold may give the diamond a slightly yellow cast, a diamond set in rose gold will shimmer brightly with pink/blue reflections that actually make it appear very clear.

Other gemstones really pop against the unique color of rose gold. Citrines, peridots and canary diamonds that would otherwise just fade into the background of a more traditional yellow gold look fabulous set in rose gold. Sapphires, rubies and emeralds are all complimented by the lovely color.

The finest rose gold jewelry is of 14k gold, which is stronger than the softer 10k gold. Because of the higher gold content in 14k gold, this rose gold will have the popular blush pink shade that most people think of when they hear the phrase rose gold jewelry. If you are looking for a deeper, more reddish version, look for 10k rose gold, which will have more copper but will also be a bit softer and will tend to scratch a bit more.

Whatever your choice when shopping for rose gold jewelry, you’re sure to end up with a lovely piece of jewelry that others will admire for its lovely color and unusual style.

Feel Beautiful Even If You Are Pregnant

Posted under Beauty on Sunday 20 April 2008

Expecting mothers are happy as they anticipate the day when their baby will be born and carried on their arms. But despite the new found happiness of expecting, the extra gain of weight can affect how a woman would feel about her body. Pregnant women may get feelings of being unattractive but then if they just choose the right maternity clothing to flatter them, they’ll still look beautiful, sexy and attractive even with a baby on board.

It really doesn’t matter on whether you are small and petite or plus size. There are many funky and stylish maternity clothes that you could choose from and at even discounted prices. Looking good often stems from feeling good from deep within. If you just spend time and exert effort on finding the right maternity clothes for you, you can still be stylish during the entire pregnancy.

You don’t have to be thin to be beautiful. Irregardless of the size, there are many maternity clothing options both on local shops as well as online, that will make you look good and attractive. What are important is the fit and the style that will flatter your current figure.

Because of your increasing weight and size, it can get uncomfortable. Maternity clothes are specially designed to let you feel as comfortable as possible during the pregnancy term. But it doesn’t mean that style has to be sacrificed for comfort. With some effort in searching either through your local retail shops or online stores, you can find stylish and funky maternity clothes.

You have your maternity skirts, pants, dresses, shirts and others all designed for a pregnant woman’s comfort. Underwear and bras are important too. If you still want to display a sexy image for your husband, you can go for maternity thongs available in exciting and vibrant prints and colors. Just because you are pregnant doesn’t mean you can’t wear some of the clothes that you used to wear.

Shirts and jeans that have stretched panel areas would be a good staple in a pregnant woman’s wardrobe. You may as well regularly wear dresses and skirts. These are loose and provide ample room to grow while helping you hide some of the gained weight and increase in size.

As much as possible don’t buy maternity clothes that you will easily outgrow during your pregnancy. You get to save money if you get to wear them for a longer period.

Are Organic and Natural Cosmetics Really As Good As They Claim?

Posted under Beauty on Saturday 19 April 2008

Organic and natural cosmetics usage is on the rise. As these products become big business, it is important for consumers to protect themselves against false product labeling. That is why it is essential to have a third-party certify that a product is indeed an organic or natural cosmetic product.

Natural or Organic?
In the United States, a product that claims to be a natural cosmetics product does not have to go through any government testing to put the word “natural” on their packaging. Even most chemicals can be traced back to their natural roots, so technically the term “natural” can apply to just about anything! This term has become a marketing tool to sell more seemingly natural cosmetics to unsuspecting consumers.

In order to use the term “organic” on labeling in the US, however, there are strict government regulations that must be followed. Most importantly, an organic cosmetic company must prove that the majority of its ingredients have been grown and processed according to strict, government-controlled, organic agricultural standards. Depending on whether they claim to have 100% organic, organic or “made with organic ingredients” an organic cosmetics company’s products can contain varying degrees of organic ingredients.

There are multiple regulatory agencies that can determine if a cosmetic company can call themselves “organic.” The most stringent organic cosmetics regulations actually come from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA.) Organic cosmetics that feature the USDA label on their products meet the strict ingredients and processing criteria in accordance with the USDA’s National Organic Program.

Unfortunately, it costs money to become certified organic, so many small organic cosmetic and soap companies choose to forego the pricey government certification and opt for the term “natural” to sell their products. In the end, this only serves to hurt their reputation and confuse the consumer.

Higher Standards in Europe

It is extremely important to note that European countries such as France and Germany as well as other countries like Australia already hold their natural and organic cosmetics to an even higher standard than the United States.

In Germany, for instance, only natural cosmetics companies who have proven to adhere to the strict BDIH guidelines are able to put their seal on their packaging. These guidelines ban petroleum-based, synthetic or genetically modified ingredients. They also require packaging to be ecologically conscious and prohibit any animal testing among other rules. These guidelines only apply to natural cosmetics companies, not organic ones.

The Future Of Certification

Recently, some strides have been made to hold companies responsible for mislabeling their organic and natural cosmetics when they contained non-organic and petrochemical materials. The Organic Consumers Association (OCA) publicly attacked popular companies such as Jason’s Pure Natural, Kiss My Face and Nature’s Gate Organics for using known carcinogens in their products.

Unfortunately, the landscape of certified and natural cosmetics in the United States is only going to get more uncertain in the months to come as certification agencies, industry groups and retailers implement their own regulations.

However, with the Natural Products Association launching its bid to tighten regulations in the US on natural products with what amounts to a near reflection of BDIH guidelines, there is hope for the future provided these tougher rules are adopted and supported broadly by the natural personal care products industry and its leaders such as Lavera, Dr. Bronner’s and Dr Hauschka.

At least for now though there is USDA and BDIH for the European-produced brands. No products certified by either body earned any black marks from the OCA.

A New Shampoo May Be The Best Cure

Posted under Beauty on Saturday 19 April 2008

Hair care and hair style relies heavily on the products one uses on a daily basis. For instance, shampoo can have a different effect on different hair types. If a person is prone to frizzy hair, it is best to choose a hair style that can work if the hair is behaving or misbehaving. Similarly, if a person has straight hair, thin hair, to choose a hair cut that gives the illusion that more hair is there is likely the best approach to take.

A hair stylist is the best person to offer professional advice as they see people all day long, of all hair types, and have likely built up a regular clientele of return customers happy with the results which they provided over time. There are certain shampoo types for people with specific types of hair, for example, people with straight hair might use a product that controls damage or flyaway hairs. A person with curly hair might use a relaxing shampoo to tame wild locks. There are also varieties for people who want shine in their hair, which can often help the appearance of damaged hair look more refined and sleek.

A hair style expert can best advise a client on the products to use for the type of hair one has. Because hair products are often not as affordable as drug store brands, it is a benefit of seeing a hair style expert because they know products based on the discounted rates they might be able to try them for. Additionally, most stylists have hair care tips and techniques to go along with their hair care products. Because a stylist is a professional seeing many types of people on a day to day basis, it is likely they have a product that is suited for each and every hair type or style or cut there is out there, and so if you see a stylist this is the added benefit besides personalized advice.

Celebrity hairstyle photos are often in magazines around salons and spas in order to give clients an idea of what type of look they might want to choose during that particular visit. There are even magazines solely dedicated to celebrity hairstyle images in order to give people the ideas they are looking for in photograph form in the case that they cannot explain what it is they want. To go to a salon with an idea and then walk away with exactly what you want is the idea that most professional businesses seek to create for their clients.

Cosmetic Surgery for Scar and Tattoo Removal

Posted under Beauty on Saturday 19 April 2008

Scars are simply a part of the human body’s natural healing process, while tattoos are something people have usually intentionally applied to their bodies. However, as they age many people decide it is time for them to seek the help of a cosmetic surgeon to have the look of scars and tattoos on their body lessened.

Tattoo Removal

Many people in their 40s and 50s reach a point where they have decided that the tattoos they loved as younger adults are no longer appropriate for their current life. Additionally, tattoos do not always hold their quality look over time and sometimes get to a point where they simply must be removed. The good news is that most tattoos can be removed using lasers and other cosmetic surgery techniques. While the tattoo may never be 100% removed, the look of it can be lessened to very acceptable levels.

Scar Removal

Just as people choose to have tattoos removed, they also sometimes choose to have scars removed as well. Whether the scars are caused by an accidental injury or from a surgical procedure, scars can be unsightly if they are in a very obvious location on the body and can cause the owner to become self-conscious about them.

While scars cannot be completely removed by any cosmetic surgeon, their look can be greatly improved through injections and scar revision procedures. The least invasive option for scar removal is through the use of injected steroids. If the scar is located on the face, sometimes a technique known as dermabrasion is used. Dermabrasion involves controlled removal of the top layers of skin using a specialized tool; it will not completely remove scars but it can lessen their appearance.

One of the most common ways for a plastic surgeon to remove scar tissue is to cut out the tissue itself and re-sew up the area using very small stitches. By taking their time, a qualified plastic surgeon can create a new scar in the same area which is much less noticeable than the original for which it is replacing.

Another common plastic surgery scar removal technique involves the cosmetic surgeon repositioning an incision so that it will heal in a natural fold of the skin or in a less visible location on the body.

Skin Grafting and flapping are also cosmetic surgery techniques used to reduce the scar visibility but there are chances that the transferred skin may not exactly match the color and texture of the surrounding skin, thereby producing satisfactory results.
Anesthesia for Tattoo and Scar Removal

Tattoo removal plastic surgery is generally done using local anesthetic in a plastic surgeon’s office. However, the more invasive forms of scar removal are usually done under a general anesthesia in a hospital or surgery center’s operating room.

Breast Procedures, Diet and Exercise: Three Ways to Get Ready for Swimsuit Season

Posted under Beauty on Saturday 19 April 2008

Get ready for the summer and reduce swimsuit embarrassment by getting in shape now. Think about dieting, exercise, and the possibility of breast enhancements.

Swimsuit season is just around the corner and you do not want to be caught unprepared! Now is the time to get serious about shaping and toning your body so that you can feel great in your new suit by the pool, on the lake, or at the beach. Three great ways to get the look you are dying for include diet, exercise, and breast augmentation.

First, take a look at your diet. You do not have to go on some crazy crash diet fad to lose those extra pounds before summer. Short of traumatic surgery, there is no quick way to lose weight and there is certainly no easy way to lose weight. But there are proven ways to lose weight over time. Start by monitoring how many calories you are eating each day. Then identify items you eat that really do not provide much nutrition or things that you eat too much.

These might be things like soda, chips, candy, extra butter or other flavorings. If you can cut 500 calories out of your normal daily caloric intake, you will lose roughly one pound each week. Do not go overboard though, by cutting out too many calories. You will need plenty of food to keep all your systems functionally well and to stay healthy.

Medical professionals recommend that you never eat less than 1200 calories per day unless specifically authorized by your doctor. Be realistic about your weight loss goals. A safe and healthy plan involves losing from a half pound to two pounds per week. Losing more than two pounds each week is not advisable as it will likely result in the weight coming back in the longer run.

Changing your eating habits isn’t the only way to cut calories and get into shape. Exercise is an essential element to effective weight loss and a trim figure. Most physical fitness experts recommend that people get about 30 minutes of exercise each day. In fact, coupling dieting with exercise is much more effective than doing either one alone. When you exercise you are burning away calories, so you do not have to cut back as many calories from your plate each day.

Brisk walking can be a great way to shed the unwanted pounds. Depending on your weight, you can burn anywhere from 125 to 250 calories while walking moderately fast for 30 minutes. Now that’s not a demanding work out schedule!

Finally, no matter what your weight is, you may not be happy with the size or shape of your breasts. And when you are strutting around in that bathing suit, your chest is definitely on display. If you are really looking for a change in that area, the best solution may be one of several breast augmentation procedures. There are breast implants for those wanting fuller cleavage or more shapely breasts.

If you feel like your chest is sagging, you can look for breast lift to remove excess skin and give your chest a more youthful appearance. And of course, there is breast reduction surgery for those who have more than enough and too much cleavage. You can find out more about the various options by talking with a cosmetic surgeon.

Diet and exercise can help you slim and tone down to your desired shape, but breast augmentation may be helpful if you are unhappy with the appearance of your chest. The combination of all three can give you the confidence you have always sought to proudly wear your summer swimsuit.

Women get no more reason to face swimsuit embarrassment this summer. San Francisco breast enhancement procedures performed by a board certified plastic surgeon in combination with strict diet and exercise regime can help you get the much desired figure.
